2020 Volvo XC90

What's New For the 2020 Volvo XC90?

There are a variety of new features introduced in the 2020 model. The exterior changes include restyled wheels, newly designed bumpers, and a refreshed front grille. All the baseline models are equipped with tailpipes, and you may also notice the subtle roof-rails. Similarly, the sporty R-Design has changed to a black glass theme instead of the matte silver exterior.

All the 2020 models come with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The Inscription and R-Design trim levels are equipped with the front parking sensors. Drivers will also notice the upgraded front and rear cross-traffic features in these trim levels. The active steering support is another additional feature for the driver-assistance-technology found in every model.

There are options to include luxurious upholstery on each trim level. The classic Black ashwood trim is optional for the baseline Momentum model where the R-Design can be equipped with Nappa leather, and the Inscription can include a restyled shifter made from Orrefors crystal. There is also an option for a sixth passenger in the Momentum and Inscription models. The layout features a second-row captain's chair.

Volvo has discontinued the Excellence trim from the previous year. Instead, the T8 plug-in hybrid model is fine-tuned to be compatible with a larger 11.6-kWh battery.

What Features Are Available for 2020?

Despite the fact that there are three main trims, the XC90 is officially classified into seven trim levels depending on the passenger capacity and the type of engine. The T5 Momentum and T5 R-Design have similar features, but buyers have a choice of either a 250 hp or a 316hp engine.

Compared to T5, the T6 model has five distinct levels that are easily distinguished by the number of passengers and trim. All T6 models offer 316hp as a standard engine, but the number of passengers varies according to the selected t6 configuration. Among these, only the T5 Momentum and the T5 R-Design come in front-wheel models as all other trims are all-wheel drive.

2020 Volvo XC90 Powertrain Options

There are three different engines used in the SUV. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbo-four 250-hp engine, which is only available in the base trim level. For those looking for more power, they have the option of a powerful 316-hp engine. The 316-hp is available for all-wheel drive models. There is also a 400-hp plug-in hybrid XC90 T8 edition that uses T6 powertrain by adding two electric motors and a charging port on the exterior. Additional performance features include the trademark Volvo air suspension panels offering four different drive modes for off-road conditions.

Packed With Safety Features

Volvo is a brand synonymous with safety, which is why both NHTSA and IIHS gave it their highest safety ratings. The legacy continues in XC90 as it offers a huge range of safety options that includes a standard forward-collision warning and emergency braking. As part of the package, all models get rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and lots of other features. You will also not regret the 3-year complimentary maintenance and an extended warranty for hybrid components.
