Specs at a Glance

The 2019 model year marks one of the second-production entries of the XC60, a luxury compact crossover SUV from Swedish automaker Volvo. Thanks to a trio of trims with the R-Design, Inscription, and Momentum, as well as dual engine and powertrain choices, customers can choose from a vast range of possibilities. And the T5 Momentum and the T6 R-Design are two of such trim combinations.

Performance

The T5 Momentum gets its prefix from its “T5” engine, which is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The T6 R-Design is also partly named after its “T6” engine, which combines two air compressors—a turbocharger and a supercharger—in a 2.0-liter I4 to produce 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. On the T5 Momentum, you can stick with a front-wheel drivetrain, which maximizes its combined fuel economy at 24 mpg, or opt for an all-wheel drivetrain for better traction performance. On the T6 R-Design, you will get a standard all-wheel-drive system, with no option to switch to front-wheel drive. As a result, your combined fuel economy will be reduced to 22 mpg.

Appearance

On the 2019 Volvo XC90, you can expect a black chrome-accented grille, LED headlights with auto-on/off and high-beam dimming abilities, a power moonroof, aluminum roof rails, black-finished power mirrors, a single chrome exhaust tip, auto-off rear fog lights, and a body-color rear spoiler among the T5 Momentum’s exterior features. At the T6 R-Design level, the XC90 is further enhanced with exterior features such as a silver finish (instead of black) and power-folding capability on the side mirrors, a sensor-activated power liftgate, LED fog lights in the front, a front and rear skid place to protect the undercarriage from less-than-smooth surfaces, and a dual exhaust tip. However, the T6 R-Design has black window trim, rather than the chrome that’s on the T5 Momentum.

Features

As a five-seater, the 2019 Volvo XC60 provides 102.9 cubic feet of passenger volume. It also provides 29.7 cubic feet of standard cargo space; folding down the rear seats maximizes cargo space at 63.3 cubic feet. On the T5 Momentum, expect leatherette seat covers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and front seats with 10-way power adjustability. On the T6 R-Design, a 2-position memory system is added on the driver’s seat, and both seats get heating ability due to the trim’s standard all-wheel drivetrain. For comfort and convenience, the T5 Momentum provides features such as cruise control, keyless entry, push-button engine start, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth wireless technology, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Sensus Connect for infotainment integration, a 10-speaker 330-watt audio system, a USB port and an audio jack for connecting mobile devices, AM/FM radio, HD Radio, a touchscreen display with voice activation, SiriusXM Radio service, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. At the T6 R-Design level, XC60 also gets a navigation app, an active parking system, a universal home remote, proximity keyless access ability, SiriusXM Travel Link service, a memory card slot, and an upgrade of the audio system with a 13-speaker 600-watt one. For safety, the T5 Momentum comes with a rearview camera, six airbags, electronic vehicle stability control, traction control, an anti-lock braking system, hill assist control, hill descent control, pre-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, and a theft-deterrent system. Added on the T6 R-Design are blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a front and rear parking sensor system.
